MWIA president´s message

MWIA president´s message
Dear members of the Thai Medical Women's Association, dear MWIA members of the central Asia region, dear MWIA members from other regions

it is a great pleasure as MWIA president to invite you all to the upcoming 8th Central Asia Regional Congress in Bangkok at September 6-8, 2018.
The Thai Medical Women's Association has chosen a wonderful topic ”Women´s well-being - a global perspective”. It is highly important to discuss and develop strategies how to improve women´s health and the quality of their life. Similarly, we also need to understand better the needs of young female doctors, as well as the role of medical women in health care and in societal transformation.
I am looking forward to the exchange with all of you and to learn from each other in sisterhood and mutual understanding. As you know, the theme of my triennium 2016-2019 as MWIA president is “Medical women- ambassador of change” and the theme of your congress reflects perfectly this theme and MWIA will continue supporting TMWA and the central Asia region to make a difference in your region.

I have been attending the Central Asia Regional Congress in Chiang Mai in 2012 and I am looking forward to coming back to the Central Asia regional congress in 2018. Hope to see you all there!

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Dr. Bettina Pfleiderer PhD. MD. President,
Medical Women’s International Association

Message from the Secretary General

Message from the Secretary General

It is my pleasure to bring greetings from the Secretariat to the 8th Central Asia Regional Meeting, being held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 6-8, 2018.

The theme of “Women’s Wellbeing – A Global Perspective” presents an opportunity for a wide range of topics in women’s health.   In addition, it lends itself to gender mainstreaming in health which deals not only with how disease differs between women and men, but also includes the influence of gender roles and norms and the power relations between women and men.

We must not forget the health of women doctors as more and more is expected of the medical profession in a time where health care budgets cannot meet the needs or expectations of the population.  Although we have often heard of worklife-homelife balance, it is far from balanced when that work is being a doctor.

This regional congress will be my third time at a MWIA meeting in Thailand and I look forward to the wonderful hospitality of the Thai Medical Women and visiting the beautiful country of Thailand.

Let me wish you a memorable and successful congress!
